Description
The albarello is the Italian apothecary jar: a cylinder pinched in at the waist, shaped so that it could be lifted off a high shelf with one hand. This one carries figures painted freehand on a pale ground, with a scroll bearing the lettering.
It takes more hours of brushwork than anything else in the catalogue. Each figure is painted in a single pass, because the colour enters the raw glaze the instant it is laid down. It is a piece to look at closely: every stroke is the final one.
[TO BE CONFIRMED AT THE STUDIO: height and diameter of the albarello]
