Oil cruets & sets

Cruets and sets made up of a cruet and a dish. These are objects handled with oily fingers and set down full, so the wide base is not decorative: it is what stops them going over.

The olive motif is the household pattern of Tuscany, and on a pale ground it is also the hardest to paint: on a light colour every hesitation of the hand stays visible.
